Under the direct supervision of the Pediatric Dental Clinic Coordinator and the indirect supervision of the Pediatric Dental Practice Manager, incumbent is responsible for assisting all dental clinical staff in performing and monitoring sterilization procedures.


  1. High School Diploma or GED.
  2. Ability to read and interpret documents, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; Proficient in English.
  3. CPR Required (provided by SCHC within 6 months of hire)
  4. Familiarity with common dental terminology


  1. Properly operate sterilization equipment such as steam autoclaves, instrument washer, and ultrasonic; adheres to OSHA, AAAHC and CODA standards in sterilization process. 
  2. Decontaminates and sterilizes instruments, medical supplies and equipment, and assembles, wraps and sterilizes trays of instruments. Follows proper Standard Precautions while in decontamination and sterilization areas
  3. Monitors biological and chemical wash solution to ensure quality and consistency for decontamination of instruments and medical equipment.
  4. Sorts mismatched sets of instruments, trays, and medical equipment and makes them available to sterile processing in a timely manner.
  5. Restocks, labels, and maintains inventory, submits requisitions, collects and distributes instruments, trays, crash carts, and facility medical equipment.
  6. Performs environmental maintenance duties and assists in maintaining inventory levels in sterile processing, treatment rooms, and in equipment storage areas.
  7. Verifies that equipment functions properly, requisitions for equipment maintenance, repair or replacement, and removes defective equipment.
  8. Keep sterilization room in neat and organized condition and free from hazards.
  9. Assist with break down and set up of treatment rooms as needed.
  10. Assists with maintaining established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, and quality
  11. Improvements to include safety, and environmental and infection control standards;
  12. 11 Maintains both accurate and complete and organized logs of sterilization runs, spore testing etc.
  13. Other duties as assigned.
